The Road to Solitude - A Tour of Jackson Hole, WY

This was my distraction last week. Not too shabby.

The generous C. family invited E. and me (oh yah, and 20+ of their closest friends from mission days, Columbia days, NYC days) to enjoy a long and perfect weekend with them in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The most fun part was that E. kept it a secret. I usually don't do surprises....I'm always the SURPRISER, not the SUPRISEE....

This was the view from the front porch. The Grand Teton Range was literally in our back yard.

Who has a back yard like this?! I wish I did.

The weekend was spent white water rafting down the Colorado River, eating and eating and eating some more (J.C. is an amazing chef!!), laughing, napping, making new friends, hearing old stories, and learning new things.

This is an annual trip for these long time friends. To make the evenings more interesting, W.C. assigns lecture nights to certain people. They decide on the topic.

One projector, one lap top, one red velvet lecture chair originally owned by Brigham Young, and one white sheet attached to the wall for a screen....and we were on our way to learning about:

1. Wing Chung - the Chinese martial art
2. The Apostasy - How world religions view it differently
3. Islam - an overview of the religion, culture, Mecca, and beliefs
4. NYC's Chinatown LDS culture

Honestly, one of the most fascinating weekends I've had in a long time. Thank you E. Thank you C. family. Thank you new friends.... It was "marvelous". Let's do it again soon.

Our very own, literal road to solitude
