Sleepless Nights Miami
What: Sleepless Night consists of 84 various venues and over 300 Miami Beach cultural presenters, installations, exhibitions and more! – ALL FREE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
When: Last night
With Who: my good friends Sheli and Mike
Our thoughts:
We are much less artsy fartsy than we thought... We browsed two art galleries where none of the art really piqued our interest. The first was reminiscent of Warhol. Bright colors, obnoxious over sized images that were cartoonized. The second gallery was interesting. You walked through various rooms where the artist was obviously given a room to do with what they please. One room had a giant pile of plastic GI Joe's strewn across the floor. This is art? We also had a moment where we called a painting "weird" and then realized the artist was standing right there. It was a little awkward. We stumbled along saying.... "it's weird, but i really like it. very interesting". oops... We heard some great music - most with Latin flair. Girls in gold spandex booty shorts shakin it on stage with bongos and steel drums in the background. You'd have thought it was Ricky Martin up there. The crowd was unbelievable. There were camera flashes everywhere, girls being blocked from the stage by mammoth security guards... I never knew bongos could be so mesmerizing.
The people watching in South Beach is FANTASTIC. However, the crowd drastically changes once the velvet ropes disappear and the capitalized letters "FREE TO THE PUBLIC" are involved. Not quite the South Beach crowd we were hoping for, but there were many eye catching exceptions.
