Ramstein (Say out loud with German accent, please)

Ramstein, Germany. Not Rammstein the freaky headbanger band who's genius lyrics are "Du. Du Hast. Du Hast Mish" (repeat that 30 times in a row, and that's the song!).

We landed in Germany to such dramatic weather. Regardless of the fact that these airplanes are totally modern, and some of the workhorses of the United States Military, there's something so vintage about this scene to me.

I was hoping, praying and crossing my fingers for a welcoming committee of 10 Air Force Majors in their crisp dress blues. They must have been on their lunch break, because they left this sign instead.

This is another airplane who arrived at the same time as us. It is similar to the one we fly in. We love Gulfstream!
I felt ever so official with my "go anywhere" pass. According to this, I even have a Government rank! GS12 means I am a Government Contractor Specialist. It also means I should be earning between $70K and $90K a year. I'd like to know when to expect my first paycheck, please.
Ramstein Air Force Base has a brand new USO Center, and we were there for the Grand Opening. We were bringing 5 Medal of Honor Recipients who were the Guests of Honor. Each one has such an amazing story of how they came to receive their Medals. Amazing courage, bravery and heroism in the face of death. To date, there are only 144 surviving. These are men to truly admire! Each Medal recipient receives a personalized coin, distinguishing their time of service. One of the recipeints, Gary Littrell, gave me this coin. I was so honored....
But then also amused to find out if I can't produce this coin the next time I see Mr. Littrell, I have to buy him a drink.... Typical.
You know you're in Germany when the restaurants don't have water glasses.
My friend Lauren's husband is stationed at Ramstein, and they live about 20 minutes from the base. I was so happy to go to dinner with her! She lives in the cutest neighborhood!! Someday I'd love to live (for more than a month at a time, like I do now) overseas. I have dreams that I wake up, and my whole life is transplanted somewhere foreign and exotic. Sigh.... One of these days....
