Project Artemis - Afghan women changing their world

Today is an exciting day for 19 Afghan women in America.

They came to Thunderbird as budding entrepreneurs, and as citizens of a country that oppresses women.

They are courageous. They are intelligent. They are bold. They are reformers.

They want a better life for themselves, their children, their grandchildren. They chose to take a step which could be dangerous for them.

Keep in mind the freedoms we have as American women. We should celebrate daily that we can dress, worship, behave and live the way we choose.

These women have the incredible gift of hope. They see what the future could be for them, and they are taking active steps to achieve what they want. They are open in every sense of the word. Open to change, open to hardship, open to conquering prejudice through their bold actions.

A small detail I found interesting of the group, is the women leave their hotel room doors open when they're inside. You pass by their doors, and they're left wide open, as if inviting anyone to stop in and chat! So different than the American way. We each go our separate ways, and you hear the "slam click" of the hotel room door shortly after. Every man for themselves.

I have learned so much just by observing these women.

Be modest. Be humble. Be bold. Take action. Be true to your morals and values. Be open.

Today is their graduation ceremony. They will take their 'diplomas' back to their small shops in Afghanistan and display them proudly. They will hire other women and teach them the fundamentals of business. They are creating new traditions in their country, new ideas, new expectations.

If you're near the Thunderbird campus this morning, stop by and celebrate with us!

Thank God there's a movement to help these women. I just tweeted it. Thank you for spreading the word on this important event!

Thank you for always supporting and spreading the word! You have a much larger base of eyes and ears than I do, so it is most appreciated. These are important causes that I wish more people were aware of.
