The Afghan Journey Begins....

Late Saturday night, our lovely group of women entrepreneurs arrived from Afghanistan (after 12 hours of delays). They are young, excited, full of energy, and hope. What amazing ladies! The security guy yelled at us for taking up too much space. He obviously doesn't understand that each woman gets 3 kisses!

My attempt at writing in Dari...

I woke up on Sunday morning to two lovely swollen shut eyes. I headed to the emergency room, completely scared of what was wrong. I FaceTimed with my doctor father with hope that he'd know what was wrong with me, and tell me what to do! I'm quarantined for the next 24 hours... so thankfully I'll be back at work just in time for the Welcome Reception and first marketplace. I can't wait to see the beautiful goods the women brought!

If you're local, please come out Tuesday and meet these wonderful women!

Just an update on my last post and my dear friend, N. She was not given her visa in time. She will be unable to attend this incredibly important training, and she's so upset... I've tried to find words to console her, but what can one say to soften such a blow... I can't imagine the sadness she felt as she watched her counterparts depart for the US. We're all disappointed.
